About the Highland Players

The group organized in 1989 through the inspiration of a few interested people such as: Bob Davies, Bea Davies, Dave Fisher, Scott Andres, Keith Zehr, Nancy van der Schee, and Gloria Ford. The first play performed was Plaza Suite. Our venues have ranged from performing Godspell in local churches, to Waiting for the Parade in area legions and community centres, and local schools. Several of our productions, such as Oklahoma, My Fair Lady and Grease were staged at Almaguin Highlands Secondary School (AHSS). Now most of our productions are staged in the theatre at Land of Lakes Senior Public School (LOL).

The Highland Players is a small informal group of volunteers from the Almaguin area interested in promoting theatre in the area. The talent is this area is exceptional and we have seen many performers blossom and gain confidence through their experiences on the stage – most of them come back for more.  Cast personnel come form Huntsville in the south to Callander in the north.

We meet on the third Monday of every month, except in July and August. A small core group usually plans the productions and then it’s a mad search to fill cast and crew positions. Any funds raised from the productions go back into the coffers to finance the next play.

We are always looking for volunteers in the crew sector – currently we have an established core but need additional people to learn the ropes in some key areas such as: sound, lighting, make-up, hospitality, directing, props – all areas!! Because the preparation for each production is so intense, personnel do become overwhelmed and need relief.

Contact us if you are interested in becoming involved – all the personnel behind the scenes state that they have more fun there than on the stage.
